Statement to voters

I am honoured to have been selected to be Labour Parliamentary candidate for Bognor Regis and Littlehampton! Knowing the positive change a Labour government will bring to my community has been the inspiration behind the work I have been putting in both locally and nationally to make this happen. I was born in Coventry, but moved to Canada as a child, coming back to complete GCSEs, then going on to university studying history, law and international development. I moved to the area when I became a Special Guardian to my two children, placed with me by social services. I knew they needed to be raised surrounded by a community that would encourage them to thrive. Being a Special Guardian and kinship carer has reinforced my belief in the need for change, for recognition of the realities of care work, who is carrying out this work and how it can be supported. Too many in our communities are left behind, doing the best they can to care for their families and those around them, but finding that ends don't meet all too often and the systems that are supposed to help are inaccessible. My Mum is a nurse. I've watched her work hard in our NHS, committed to delivering the highest standard of care. Under the Conservatives this has become increasingly difficult, year after year having resources cut, no or extremely low pay rises and almost as importantly, the constant narrative of blame. I will be a strong advocate for the NHS, working for fair pay and conditions for staff and the highest level of care for all patients. Bognor Regis and Littlehampton need good green jobs and investment that brings security to our communities. I want to understand and advocate for new technologies and consider new ways of managing our economy to ensure we prioritise wellbeing as a route to productivity. My family and I used to live near the beach, something our children loved, but our beautiful beach was frequently unfit for bathing because of sewage pollution. We must hold the water companies to account, force investment and ensure there is enforcement of environmental standards. Labour's commitment to halve violence against women and girls is inspiring. Underfunding of our justice system and the lack of understanding of the causes of this problem amongst Conservative policy makers are holding back progress in this crucial area. Gender based violence is an issue that negatively impacts everyone in our society and globally, I will work to meet this commitment. In working to be elected in Bognor Regis and Littlehampton I will listen to constituent's concerns, understand your needs and work to bring about the positive change we need.
