Statement to voters
I was born in Nottingham and attended local schools in Woodthorpe and Arnold before moving away for University. I now live in Redhill with my wife and two children. After studying biological sciences and completing a Biochemistry PhD at St Andrews University, I worked locally in NHS research and research governance for ten years. During the pandemic I decided to retrain as a psychologist, completing an MSc in 2022. I am currently working as a research assistant. I have been a committed member of the Liberal Democrats since 2006, standing in many local elections and as a parliamentary candidate in 2015 and 2017 (Nottingham East & Nottingham North). My main interests are in better use of science in politics (including increasing the level of R&D spending in the UK), promoting greater understanding of asylum seekers, and in improving treatment of mental health issues. Previously I was a publicly elected Governor of a mental health NHS Trust and I also volunteered with a charity, Freedom from Torture.
