Statement to voters
I have lived in Bexley all my life and in my twentieth year as a councillor in the London Borough of Bexley. My working career started in M&S’ Bexleyheath store and I spent eleven years working for the company working from Saturday staff to a store management position. I now run my own consultancy business and lives locally with my wife, a teacher, and our ten-year old twins. I was Labour’s candidate in the 2021 Old Bexley & Sidcup by-election, achieving a 10% swing to the party. As the parent of a child with cerebral palsy, I work closely with local parent groups supporting and campaigning on behalf of children with disabilities and their families both across the borough and nationally with SCOPE and the Changing Places campaign. During my time on the Council, I have served as Cabinet Member for Transport under the last Labour administration from 2003-06 where I worked with trade unions to save direct Bexleyheath to Victoria train services, deliver road safety improvements, and ensure the Elizabeth Line came south of the river to Abbey Wood. I have also served as Leader of the Labour Group on the council, as a local school governor and charity trustee.
