Statement to voters
My name is Rob Rawlins. I am married with a lovely wife, three children and five grandchildren. I am retired and live in Waterbeach. I have been an English language teacher to adults and still do that a little online to Iranians, Ethiopians and others. I am standing as an independent on a pro-life ticket. What is the problem? Every year in the UK we intentionally kill up to 250,000 babies in the womb. Since abortion was legalised in 1967 we have killed ten million babies. None of the major political parties have set out plans to address this injustice and some have laid out clear plans to make it worse. We face huge problems on many fronts. But surely this outweighs them all? How has abortion got this bad? Among many social reasons, the tendency to deny it’s a little person. When it’s wanted, we ask “Is it a boy? Is it a girl?” When it’s not wanted, we call it a foetus or a pregnancy. The NHS offers us ‘abortion care’ to end the pregnancy. Look at pictures of a baby in the womb and it’s clear it’s a baby. In fact, from conception it’s a baby. We pride ourselves on being a humane society with our care and concern for the poor and the vulnerable. Let us apply the same care and concern for those in the womb. Abortions are not happily chosen and are often in desperate circumstances. But the answer is not to kill the baby. Yes, much support is needed to keep the baby, but please keep not kill. What will I do about it? Being a single-issue candidate, I don’t expect to be elected. But, elected or not, I want to: - Challenge all politicians to make life-in-the-womb a ‘live issue’ - Help change society’s perception that the fetus is a baby and not disposable. Do vote for me. It’s not a wasted vote. If politicians realise they are losing votes to pro-lifers, they will address the issue. More information Look out for my leaflet coming to your home shortly.
