Statement to voters
The last five years I have worked in heritage; protecting, caring for and promoting Scotland’s history, culture and stories. Before this I managed hospitality venues in Australia and Scotland. I have experience in large corporations, small independent business as well as the third sector.Despite my great interest and in-depth knowledge of politics - standing to become an elected representative isn’t something I ever saw myself doing. However, the last two Parliament’s have shown the damage that the typical lifelong, career politicians can do to our country. From Austerity to Brexit to the Cost of Living Crisis. All these damaging factors in Scotland’s economy can be traced back to Westminster rubber stamped decisions. My aim is to challenge this, to challenge the career politicians in Government and Opposition and to fight to have the voice of the Borders heard.I will champion the policies and issues that matter to the Borders; those we know already and those that will come up along the way. For now, these are addressing depopulation to staff our Public Services and reinvigorate local business with targeted immigration and access to the EU. Fighting against Brexit and awful trade deals, like the deal with Australia, which are ravaging our farming sector. Championing social justice and equality – opposing the two-child cap, seeking fair compensation for WASPI women and campaigning for equality for all. All reserved competencies, all issues we could address immediately as a strong, independent Scotland. There’s so much more I could say, and I look forward to expanding on this and much more throughout the campaign.
