Statement to voters

I’m Katie Lam, your Conservative candidate for the Weald of Kent. I live in Sissinghurst, in the heart of the Weald. I went to a comprehensive school and then Cambridge University. I’ve spent most of my career in finance, and I’ve worked in government securing investment for Britain and helping MI5 tackle terrorism. I’ve also been a governor of a school for deaf children for the last eight years — and I write scripts and lyrics for musicals! My great-great-grandfather, Paul, was a German politician and fierce critic of the Nazis. When Hitler came to power, the whole family was persecuted. I grew up listening to my grandparents tell the story of that terrible time, so since I was a small child I’ve known what politics can do — for good and for bad — and always wanted to follow Paul into a life of elected public service. If you send me to Westminster, I will fight relentlessly for what I believe in, what matters most to our rural way of life, and what matters most to you. I will fight for our farmers, for investment in our roads, to smash crime and anti-social behaviour and to crack down on illegal migration. I will demand upgrades to our health system, fight overdevelopment, help build first-class armed forces and to build a stronger economy free from unnecessary bureaucracy.
