Statement to voters

DO YOU WANT A FULL-TIME LOCAL MP FOR STRATFORD-ON-AVON? VOTE JEFF KENNER ON 8 JUNE I’m honoured to stand again as Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate for Stratford-on-Avon. I have lived in Brailes in the rural heart of the constituency for 20 years and have served as District Councillor for Shipston from 2012-2015, showing that Labour wins here. I work as a Professor of Law at the University of Nottingham specialising in employment law and European law. I am wholly committed to the UK retaining EU employment, environmental and consumer protection laws after Brexit and support retention of full single market access to protect jobs and the economy. In 2015, I finished ahead of the other non-Conservative parties standing again this time. Now Labour is the main challenger to the Conservatives. Many people in Stratford-on-Avon are fed up with having a part-time Conservative MP who has failed to secure investment to ease traffic chaos, who has broken his promises on school funding, and who has presided over rising NHS waiting times. Being your MP requires full-time commitment. As Shipston’s Councillor I won broad support by working hard to secure more social housing, road safety improvements and better services. If you elect me, I’ll not take a second job and will continue to live here. If elected, I’ll write immediately to the Secretary of State for Education demanding a reversal of the devastating cuts to our schools. In 2015, the Conservatives said that their funding formula would help local schools but Warwickshire faces cuts of £28 million. Stratford-upon-Avon School could lose £632 per pupil and 21 teachers. Redundancies have started at local primary schools. Labour will invest in schools, reverse the cuts and reduce class sizes. Next I’ll write to the Secretary of State for Health calling for intervention to stop the further loss of services at the Horton and Alexandra hospitals. We’ve already lost acute beds and maternity services, and A&E services are vulnerable. Labour will put the NHS first and reduce waits for GP appointments and cancer tests. If elected as your MP you can be sure that I will be a champion for all the people of Stratford-on-Avon.
