Joe Richards

Statement to voters

Born and raised in Southampton, Joe Richards is ready to represent the people of Southampton Test and stop us crashing out of the EU with its untold effects on port cities like our own. Co-founder of education charity, Economy - and co-authoring a book that's taking the jargon out of politics and economics - Joe is passionate about improving the quality and inclusivity of public debate. Joe's passions include improving social mobility, respecting the limitations of our planet and better provision for and understanding of mental health. Joe is passionate about the city's future, saying "Southampton is an open and diverse city, demonstrated by the over 50% of my constituency that voted Remain - we must remain an open and tolerant nation, while protecting our local businesses and jobs". Joe worked for his family business in the city centre for many years, and studied at nearby Barton Peveril college. Joe shares the party leader's ambition for this general election at an opportune moment in our history and he says "This is about electing Prime Minister Jo Swinson - just like Jo, there's no limit to my ambition for the Lib Dems." He adds: "I'm ready to fight to stop Brexit in Southampton - my hometown and the city I love."
